Historic rally champion and Mini icon Mervyn Johnston will join Mini owners from road, rally and track in Tynagh, County Galway for Mini Magic on July 15.
The all-new event, supported by Galway Mini Centre, will see Minis of all ages coming together for both a relaxed format show parking area and track day where owners of standard road-going Minis can take part.
“The rally men have really got behind the event thanks to our track sponsor Galway Mini Centre,” said Event Director, William Neill.
Rally champion Ray Cunningham, who lifted the Mini Cup title last season and Irish Touring Car champion Eoghan Fogarty, will join Johnston’s Mini Midas kit car.
“Gerry McGarrity, Donal Kelly, Iarla Carthy,” they are all coming added Neill. “But equally we have first timers entered so we don’t want owners thinking they too have to have anything more than a standard Mini.”
The track format is three laps per run of Europe’s largest karting centre to take in around 4km on each pass. Runs, starting at 10am, will be continually added to the day with the on track price at a value for money 95 euro. Entries are available on entry system website enter.rallyscore.net and MiniMagicEvents.com.
Track spaces are being taken up, with at the time of press 30 per cent of spaces gone. Minimum requirements are 18+, Irish or UK driving license (not competition), working belts or harness, long sleeves and a track day helmet. The on location Pallas Karting store will hire helmets for just five euro with a 50 euro returned deposit.
Show entries are on the day and priced at 10 euro with up to three passengers included.
previously mentioned Irish Touring Car champion Eoghan Fogarty, will drive an 1800cc 16-valve Clubman GT at Mini Magic on July 15 in Tynagh, County Galway. It will be Fogarty’s first time on track since claiming the crown in 2015 with the Honda engine Mini taking the place of a BMW M3 faor the special occasion.
WillPromotion Event Director, William Neill said: “Fogarty is one of a number of drivers putting finishing touches to his car in order to be ready in time for Mini Magic this summer. We know of engines being sourced and late nights in garages across Ireland – all with the aim of being on track in Tynagh.”
Neill, a Mini owner himself, and no stranger to driving it hard on hillclimb events added: “From an organising point of view it is excellent to see the enthusiasm for the new event supported by Galway Mini Centre. Looking at the range of Minis confirmed and those who have been in touch to say they will be entering, is what has the potential to make Mini Magic memorable for owners of the little car. Standard road Minis, rally cars and track specials are all expected.”
Galway Mini Centre will also display a plethora of Minis prepared by the specialist at Mini Magic on July 15 in Tynagh, Loughrea, County Galway, as part of their track day sponsorship.
WillPromotion event director, William Neill, said: “Galway Mini Centre and Ray Cunningham have shown real enthusiasm for the Mini Magic event from the word go – it is rewarding to see our determination has been noticed by such a well respected Mini competitor and specialist. Put on top of that it will be a local event for the company and it works perfectly to have their support.”
Cunningham plans on taking at least one Mini on track where a lucky prize winner will sit alongside in what will be another busy season for the rally champion and business owner. Anyone who brings a Mini to the event will be in with a chance to get a passenger run with the rally champion. A name will be randomly selected on the day.
As a Mini builder, maintenance specialist and parts stockist for road and competition cars, the Galway Mini Centre owner will be available to talk to customers during the day.
