Another stunning performance from the 4 x Champ secures his spot at the top.
Team BMW and Colin Turkington delivered another impressive weekend of results at Oulton Park extending their lead at the top of the table. Claiming two podiums, a fourth place and fastest lap, Turkington scored a total of 46 points throughout the weekend.
The wet weather provided challenging but exciting racing, the first wet races for BTCC at the Cheshire circuit since 2014. Colin and the team showed their class once again, consistently delivering outstanding results.
DEBRIEF WITH COLIN TURKINGTON.
ANOTHER SUPERB WEEKEND OF RESULTS COLIN. P2, P3 AND P4, YOU MUST BE DELIGHTED WITH THAT DESPITE THE TRICKY CONDITIONS?
You never quite know how a weekend is going to play out when the weather is unpredictable like that. The greasy, damp conditions didn’t favour our RWD cars. We usually race here in mid summer and with all the recent rain, the grip levels were particularly low on this occasion to what we’re used to. I’m really pleased with the points we tucked away, and happy with my performance throughout the course of the weekend.
ON YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA YOU HIGHLIGHTED THE INTENSITY OF RACE DAY AND THE DEMANDS ON THE TEAM. TELL US MORE ON THAT.
When the weather is all over the place the stress levels for the team rise. Added to this was the Church break at Oulton Park, so the race day is condensed into about 5 hours. That is tough going for the drivers but equally for the team. We also lost time yesterday with the disruption to race 1, but Team BMW rose to the occasion once again. It was a super weekend on that front.
IT WAS QUITE SOMETHING WATCHING THE CAR CONTROL AND RACE CRAFT IN THE WET. IT’S A SPECTACLE FOR THE FANS, BUT PERHAPS NOT AS MUCH FUN WHEN YOU’RE BEHIND THE WHEEL?
That is the beauty of BTCC. Door to door, nose to tail whatever the weather. It’s always after a weekend like that when the fans comment about how entertaining the series is and the guts it takes to be out doing what we do. For me it’s all about the preparation, being patient and enjoying the racing. There were a few saves for all of us in those first two races! In race 1 with the onset of rain on the grid, nobody had any time to set the car up for the wet, so that was incredibly difficult.
QUICK TURNAROUND NOW BEFORE KNOCHILL. WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS THIS WEEK?
Many of the teams have travelled straight on to Scotland but I love my own bed too much, so it’s a few nights at home, analysing our performance at Oulton Park before moving on and preparing for Knockhill. It’s going to be important to get some good rest in the bank and arrive in Scotland on Friday fresh and focused to go again.
