Sunday 5th June saw a rather large gathering of like minded car enthusiasts gather in Lisburn ahead of “Renegade Run 3” which is simply a drive from point A to point C via a stop off at point B with participants of all ages getting involved and in cars from classic hot hatches right up to brand new supercars with absolutely everything catered for in between.
I have known of the Renegade Run, organised by Iain Craig and a few of his friends from its inception. Iain is the father of Jacob Craig who is undoubtedly one of Ireland’s most well known supercar spotters and possible one of Europe’s youngest aged just 5.
Via social media, Jacobs Supercars has over 35,000 followers from across the globe. If you search “@jacobssupercarpage” on any of the main social outlets you can like and share and see some stunning cars.
Young Jacob and his supercar spotting has made headline news and with such a following on social media, father Iain decided that it was a good means of getting a lot of petrol heads together in one place for an hour, followed by a nice drive and in the process raise money for charity.
In October 2015 the first Renegade Run was held in aid of 3 year old Zak Brennan from Belfast who had just been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. Around 150 cars turned up to this run which went from Holywood Exchange and saw the run take some beautiful roads and scenery to finish up in Portaferry, they raised close to £1,000.
With the help of Damo Walsh, David Doyle and Ricky Jones the Renegade run is now onto its third event and yesterday saw hundreds of cars leave Lisburn on a journey that any driver would be excited to get behind the wheel for.
Before they left however a raffle was drawn for dozens of prizes kindly donated for the event, with all proceeds going to Make a Wish UK via #TeamJackMilton and I must say my wife was more than pleased to have won a spa treatment in this raffle.
Jack Milton is a 12 year old car fanatic from England who has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called FAP and along with his brother Josh, flew to Belfast on Saturday night to a welcoming party of supercars that took them to their hotel to catch up with the crew from Jacob’s Supercars before enjoying the run on Sunday as passengers in various supercars. Nightshift Studio caught up with Jack in this cool video.
The journey would see a straight run to Newry before hitting the coast road to Warrenpoint, Rostrevor, Annalong, Kilkeel and through Newcastle before a regroup at Dundrum. This allowed everyone to get the legs stretched and grab an ice cream before setting off to the finish which was to be the beautiful setting of Castlewellan Forest Park.
On chatting with Iain Craig in Lisburn at the start he commented “I never expected the Renegade Run to get the response that it has gotten, it brings all the various car clubs together and they become one which is great”.
Iain continued “Everyone pulls together for the run, regardless of what you drive and its all for charity, today we have raised £2,500 that is going to the Make a Wish charity which is fantastic and a credit to everyone who turned up”.
Iain then went on to thank the main sponsors for yesterday’s run who were Charles Hurst Ferrari, Momentum Motorsport, Morgan Cars and Daron from TMC Motorsport before saying that this is the last Renegade Run he will be involved with due to family commitments and also looking after Jacob’s Supercar pages and run’s.
