From launch to landmark: BYD reaches 100,000 UK registrations

In just three years, the New Energy Vehicle specialist has grown from a single-model entrant to one of the UK’s fastest-rising automotive brands.

Three years ago, BYD arrived in the UK with a single model and a clear ambition: to make electrified motoring more accessible to British drivers. Today, the company has passed a major milestone, recording 100,000 new car registrations across the country.

It is a striking rise for a brand that only began UK sales in March 2023 with the ATTO 3. Since then, BYD’s line-up has expanded rapidly from one model to ten, stretching from the compact DOLPHIN SURF hatchback to the 530PS SEALION 7 SUV-coupé. The range has also broadened beyond fully electric cars, with DM-i plug-in hybrid models including the SEAL U DM-i, ATTO 2 DM-i, SEAL 6 DM-i Saloon and Touring, and SEALION 5 DM-i. In 2026, the ATTO 3 EVO joined the portfolio as a significant update of the original UK launch model.

The sales momentum has been matched by a fast-growing retail footprint. BYD launched in the UK with five retailers; it now has 143 sites nationwide. Demand has accelerated sharply, with 37,995 of the 100,000 registered vehicles arriving in the first half of 2026 alone.

For Bono Ge, Country Manager for BYD UK, the milestone is as much about customers as it is about numbers. “We are incredibly grateful to the 100,000 BYD owners who have placed their trust in us—and to the 100,000 families behind them who have welcomed BYD into their lives,” he said.

That growing customer base is being supported by BYD’s nationwide network, which the company says will be central to delivering a stronger ownership experience as the brand continues to scale.

More products and technologies are already on the horizon. BYD plans to bring models including the DOLPHIN G, SHARK and Ti 7 to the UK, alongside DENZA models such as the Z, D9, BAO 5 and Z9 GT. New technologies, including the company’s FLASH Charging system, are also expected to play a role in making electric mobility more convenient for UK customers.
