Saturday (5 May) saw the hills around Belfast East, reverberate to the sound of hillclimbing – hillclimb is a motorsport initiative popular throughout Europe and rest of the world alike, but in the UK, some of the most exciting events are right here in Northern Ireland.

With fifty starters, the clubman event was well supported throughout most of the classes and at the top of the entry list saw a trio of Ford Fiesta WRC’s a brace of Subaru Impreza WRC’s and a DS3 R5 so there was to be amazing battles all day.
Many of you will know what the Circuit of Ireland Rally is from my pictorial and editorial coverage in here over the years, and indeed it is one of the world’s oldest and once toughest rallies around. Ran for years by the Ulster Automobile Club (UAC) it went from strength to strength and died off over the years, returning to full bloom in the last few years again.
