We recently had the pleasure of chatting with the proprietor of MB Motors Ballymena, Malcolm Beattie. Having spent over a decade of his car sales career honing his craft at Turtles Peugeot, Malcolm took the plunge 5 years ago, opening his own business based on the Woodside Road in Ballymena. With up to 150 vehicles in stock, 8 employees and a host of awards under his belt, MB Motors continues to go from strength to strength.
We got straight down to business, asking Malcolm the important questions to find out more about the man behind the motors…
What 3 words would you use to describe yourself? Motivated, impatient, joker. |
What was your first car? A Peugeot 206 1.4 with an Ecosse Body kit. Body kits were the rage back then, I wish they would come back again. |
What is your dream car? I would love to have a red Ferrari 488. |
How would your friends & family describe your driving? My wife would definitely say rash, I would say it’s more ‘fast under control’. I am quite heavy on the right foot! |
What is your favourite film? I am not a big film fan, but one film that has been about for years that I love watching every time is Cool Runnings. I would love to get a Ballymena bobsleigh team together. |
If a film was to be made about your life, who would you choose to play you? It would have to be Gabriel Macht who plays Harvey Specter in Suits. I love that show, and love his quotes. |
What would the title of your autobiography be? Selling Cars at 16 |
What title of a film, TV show or book best describes your life? I am not big into films or books, and without sounding typical I suppose I could say the Fast and Furious films. They are all about cars and family and that’s what my life consists of. |
What famous person would you most like to have dinner with? Alex Ferguson. |
How do you unwind? Unwinding in the motor trade and owning your own business is very hard but I do love going for walks with my family and the dog on a beach. Or when I get the chance some forest trails on the bike. |
Describe your dream holiday. First thing it would have to be child free (as much as I love them both) sitting on the beach in the Maldives, with my own private butler attending all my needs. |
Do you have a personal motto? I wouldn’t say I have a motto as such, but I would always say, ‘just go for it’. If there is something you have aimed to do in life why not go for it? |
What is your hidden talent? I would be well known for having good BBQ skills, hopefully we will have plenty of them this year. |
