Started some seven years ago this incredibly relaxed automotive event has become an annual affair raising vital money for the Mayor’s chosen charity and this year was no different.
With the Mayoral tenure ending in most borough’s at the start of June, this great event has become one of the final fundraisers for the Mayor since its inception in 2017.
Back then, Alderman Gareth Wilson, who is a petrolhead himself, was the brainchild of Cars, Bikes and Coffee. And with the help of Godfrey McCartney and his friends, as well as Autobits Motorsport in Armagh, the show has become a success.
Having seen coverage from the event over the years, I made sure not to miss this year’s show and, despite there being room for a lot more vehicles, I was not disappointed at all with what was on show.
Quality over quantity was prevalent!
From Italian exotica to road legal racing cars, and from rat look Harley’s to Mod scooters, there was something for everyone with plenty of rally inspired cars and classics in between. Some of my personal favourites included the Bertie Fisher tribute Impreza, the road legal Radical, the Mitsubishi GTO, and the Peugeot 404 pick-up.
Posting on social media Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council stated, “A cavalcade of motoring enthusiasts cruised into the grounds of Craigavon Civic Centre on Thursday 16 May to attend the now annual ‘Cars, Bikes and Coffee’ event hosted by Lord Mayor Margaret Tinsley in a final push to raise funds for her chosen charity, Charis Cancer Care, before her term in office ends.
“Vehicle owners, local councillors and car-loving members of the public all came along to view the wide range of cars from luxury to vintage on display and in doing so raised £1,100.
“A Lamborghini, a range of Porsches, a Morris Mini Cooper, a Mazda MX5, and Ford Mustangs were among the makes and models to attract attention from the crowds. Members of the Hope and Glory Club, Armagh brought along an array of immaculately presented Vespa and Lambretta scooters.”
Continuing, “The event ended on a high when the Lord Mayor awarded prizes in three categories:
🏆 Brian Costley from Maralin won the Best in Show prize for his ex-Tony Pond Rover rally car.
🏆 Chris Wolsey from Bangor won the Best Car prize for his 1971 BMW 2002 Tii.
🏆 Phelin Lennon from Craigavon won the Best Bike prize for his Lambretta scooter.”
