How long have you been in business?
Hollybrook Sports Cars Ltd has been trading since April 2008. Trevor has been involved in the motor trade for almost 30 years, both through car sales and specialist detailing and more recently with sales of Nugent Trailers. Matt has worked alongside Trevor for 10 years.
How many staff do you have across your business?
The majority of our staff have been with us for a number of years now. We have a total of 7 members of staff working within Hollybrook Car Sales, Hollybrook Trailer sales and Hollybrook Detailing.
What is the key to your success?
Hollybrook is based on both Trevor and Matt’s personal values of honesty and integrity. One of our key principles is to treat people the way we ourselves would like to be treated; to do everything to the best of our ability and good old-fashioned hard work. Our driving mantra is that we will never sell a car that we would not, ourselves, want to buy. Our standards have built our reputation and we are proud that our customers recommend us, trust us and come back to us when they want another car,
How is the industry right now?
The industry is showing signs of continued growth and we are busier than we were last year. One trend that we are seeing is that customers, who are proud of their cars, when they want to change, are increasingly opting to have us sell their car for them. This gives them better leverage than trading in, and it avoids the prospect of strangers visiting them, if they privately advertised.
What could the Government do to help the trade?
Reduce VAT would be one thing, although that is unlikely. The main issue is that a recovering economy helps everyone and the faster that can happen, the better.
What’s your most expensive Car?
Currently a beautiful low mileage Ferrari 360 Spyder
What could you offer someone on a shoestring budget?
It depends if they are after a sports car, or something more practical. We would always recommend someone to do their homework and calculate the costs of ownership before purchase, as we only sell cars of a high standard. We do try to accommodate someone’s budget and, even if we don’t have something suitable in stock, we will endeavour to find the best car within their price range. One of our skills is finding gems for people, at all budget levels.
What’s the most special Car you have ever sold?
It would probably be a 1989 Porsche Speedster. It was a concourse winning car, locally owned and one of only 50 known UK examples. It is now part of a private collection in Australia.
What do you drive yourself and why?
We have the privilege of road testing our purchased stock, and feel blessed to have driven a variety of exotic cars over the years.
What’s your best tip for someone looking for a Car at the moment?
Come in and see us! “The day you buy is essentially the day you sell” so don’t compromise on standards. It’s always worth stretching your budget to what you can, to get something that little bit better ie good condition, low mileage etc and always have a car checked over before purchase.
What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
When not at work Trevor and Matt like to switch off by spending time with their wives and enjoy the company of good friends. Hollybrook is closed on Sundays which gives us the chance to attend our respective church worship and enjoy God’s word.
