Dealership:
Ralph Patterson Cars
Where are you based?
Carrickfergus
How long have you been in business?
Since 1979
How many staff do you have across your business?
Along with myself and Ralph we have two car valets and two mechanics preparing the cars for sale.
What is the key to your success?
Attention to detail. Not only will the car you buy be prepared to a very high standard, we take time to understand our customers requirements and conduct all aspects of our business fairly and professionally. We want to make the buying a car from us a very relaxed process in a friendly atmosphere.
How is the industry right now?
Thankfully the used car industry in general has survived the economic downturn. This is mainly due to the fact that it is a fast moving, dynamic and flexible platform allowing used car dealers to adapt to consumer requirements with immediate effect. A good example of this is the increased level of consumer demand for low carbon, fuel efficient vehicles which are popular with customers today as motoring costs increase.
What could the Government do to help the trade?
A reduction in the VAT rates. This would lower prices of new cars which in turn would make used cars much better value for the consumer.
What’s your most expensive Car?
At present the most expensive car in the forecourt is a BMW 520D SE at £17995, however we have supplied cars from £1000 to £50000.
What could you offer someone on a shoestring budget? We stock a wide variety of makes and models and with our competitive finance packages we like to think we could sell you a car whatever your budget.
What’s the most special Car you have ever sold?
A few years ago we had a Porsche 996 GT3 traded in, which was once owned by a well known celebrity.
What do you drive yourself and why?
Ralph drives a new Mercedes E Class and I have a Honda CR-V. Its suits us perfectly as a family vehicle as it has plenty of room and a big boot. My wife mostly drives it while I’m quite happy in our company VW Caddy van.
What’s your best tip for someone looking for a Car at the moment?
Of course price is an important factor when buying a new car and the internet is a perfect forum to allow comparisons in that area. Equally important however is the quality of the vehicle and its previous history along with the reputation of the dealer from which you buy.
What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
My wife would probably say that I’m never “not at work”, however I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and I still manage to play football at least once a week.
